FAQ

1) What is Judo?

Judo is a Japanese martial art founded in the 19th century. It is a derivative of jiu-jitsu in which both share some of the same history and techniques, though Judo has been refined as more of a sport (striking is not allowed). Judo also emphasizes throws and takedowns. Literally translated, Judo means the "Gentle way." It is known as a Japanese art of self-defense and a sport with Olympic recognition. Judo is a method of turning an opponent's strength and overcoming by skill rather than sheer strength.
